Legal Help Queensland

Queensland Legal Aid delivers a wide range of legal assistance services in criminal, family and civil law matters. Some legal assistance is available free-of-charge to everyone, including through free brochures, information sessions or telephone legal advice.

The Women’s Legal Service is a specialist community legal centre run by and for women. Their service provides free legal information, advice and referrals throughout Queensland. While the centre is located in southern Queensland, they offer a free and confidential phone service to women state-wide on 1800 677 278.

Women’s Legal Aid is part of Legal Aid Queensland. They are a team of lawyers and social workers who are dedicated to helping women with their legal problems. They provide free legal information and advice and, depending on your legal problem, may also be able to represent you in court. Although they are based in Brisbane, they can give you legal information and advice no matter where you live in Queensland.

Legal Help Queensland – Northern and Central Regions

Central Queensland Community Legal Centre  is a free service dedicated to providing informed legal advice to members of the Rockhampton community and its surrounding areas. Free face-to-face advice sessions with one of their solicitors are available in Rockhampton, Yeppoon and Emerald. The centre is also happy to provide consultation via phone or fax. Their main practice areas of law include Family, General Civil and Minor Criminal Law advice. 

Mackay Regional Community Legal Centre provides free and confidential legal information, advice, referral and counselling throughout the Mackay Regional Council, Whitsunday Regional Council and Isaac Regional Council areas. 

North Queensland Women’s Legal Service offers free legal advice, referral and minor assistance, as well as free and confidential phone services. This service also offers representation to women in legal matters in selected cases as well as legal education and workshops for community groups including indigenous women and women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Queensland Indigenous Family Violence Legal Services is committed to assisting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who are victims of family violence and /or sexual assault. They do this by delivering culturally appropriate and free legal, counselling and community education services.

Legal Help Queensland – Southern Regions

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women’s Legal Advocacy Service is a community legal centre based in West End that provides free legal advice, information, assistance and referrals to support Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander women in Queensland.

South West Brisbane Community Legal Centre is based in Inala and offers basic assistance and advice in a range of legal matters including family law, domestic violence, civil suits, minor traffic offences, child protection and youth criminal law advocacy.

Gold Coast Community Legal Centre has a number of solicitors and financial counsellors who provide advice and assistance to clients. Their centre also has many reception volunteers and law student volunteers who assist where possible. Their services operate on an appointment only basis, which can be made by calling their office.

Suncoast Community Legal Service is based in Maroochydore and offers quality legal advice, referral information and education free of charge to the greater Sunshine Coast Community.

Care Goondiwindi offers free legal services which consist of 4 Legal Bodies: Toowoomba Legal Aid, Rural Women’s Outreach Service, TASC and a Care solicitor which is available by appointment. Specialist referral services include the Child Support Unit, Women’s Legal Aid and the Domestic Violence Unit.

The Rural Women’s Outreach Legal Service helps rural and regional women in South West Queensland access the right legal services or support agencies for their legal problem as well as provide initial advice. Services they cover include referral for Divorce (except property settlement matters), Parenting, Criminal Law matters, Child Support, Domestic Violence, Child Protection, Consumer Law.

Ipswich Community Legal Service provides free legal advice and information in areas including Family Law, Child Protection, Domestic Violence, Wills and Centrelink.

Churchie Gender Summit

This week, Julie was invited to Churchie Anglican Grammar School to speak at the Year 9 Gender Summit. The Gender Summit saw boys from Year 9 welcome invited delegates from St Aidan’s Anglican Girls’ School, St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School, Somerville House, Moreton Bay College and Lourdes Hill College. The event engages young future leaders in issues surrounding gender equality, specifically examining the challenges that lie ahead for a more gender equitable Australia.
