CR is Loving – Interesting Facebook Communities

Social media gets a bad wrap sometimes. A lot of attention is focussed on the negative impacts of cyber-bullying and lack of privacy.

There’s no denying that some major flaws exist in the total access we can now gain into other people’s lives.

But it’s worth noting that social media has its advantages in terms of  bringing people together and spreading ideas worth sharing.

CR is Loving three of the best Facebook communities.

Humans of New York (HONY)

HONY is an every-growing Facebook community that follows a pretty simple concept. Photographer, Brandon, walks the streets of New York and takes photos of people from all walks of life. While capturing their image, he asks them a few questions about their lives. The resulting images and accompanying captions are truly astonishing. They can make you laugh, empathise and reflect upon yourself. Most importantly, it reminds that everyone has a story to tell.

Upworthy

Upworthy is all about sharing ideas that matter. The creators of Upworthy recognise that there is insightful and inspiring information available on the web – but sometimes it can get lost in the noise. They aim to share videos that are sensational and substantial. Entertaining and enlightening. Shocking and significant.

So, head to Upworthy for videos worth spreading.

PostSecret

PostSecret is an ongoing community art project where people mail in their secrets anonymously on one side of a postcard.

The Facebook community not only displays images shared by people from around the world, but also insights and posts from the website’s founder, Frank Warren. But what makes the page truly inspirational is the engagement from the PostSecret community itself. The top comments on each post add to the feeling and emotion behind each confession. It is truly a reminder that despite our differences, we are all walking a rocky road to happiness and fulfillment.
