Lifeline provides access to crisis support, suicide prevention and mental health support services, including a 24 hour hotline – call 13 11 14.

GriefLine is Australia’s only dedicated grief helpline service that provides counselling support services free of charge to individuals and families. Phone numbers vary according to your location – see the site for details.

The Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement is the largest provider of grief and bereavement education in Australia. Through the site, you can access grief resources for kids, adolescents and adults relating to education, management and counselling. The Centre also hosts an annual conference in Melbourne in conjunction with social events.

Solace Australia is an organisation that offers grief support for those grieving over the death of their partner. The organisation offers online resources as well as meet-ups all over Australia.

Good Grief is an Australian organisation committed to education, building resilience and fostering well-being. They provide programs for children, young people and adults challenged by loss and change.

The Bereavement Care Centre provides comprehensive and accessible counselling and support services for the terminally ill and their families, and for those recently bereaved.

National Association for Loss and Grief offers comprehensive online education and resources for those experiencing grief. The group also runs education and training programs in NSW.

Stand-By Response Service provides a coordinated response of support and assistance to those who have been bereaved by through suicide.

Support After Suicide brings together people who are bereaved by suicide.

Centrelink has published online resources to assist with the practical aspects of a bereavement.

Parents and Bereavement Resources

Sands Australia provides parent support and education in the area of miscarriage, stillbirth and newborn death. Telephone support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by calling 1300 072 637 (1300 0 sands).

Pregnancy Loss Australia is a national support program for bereaved families who suffer the loss of their baby or babies from miscarriage, stillbirth, termination for feotal abnormality and neo natal loss through their early support program and professional support services.

Bears of Hope provide leading support and exceptional care for families who experience the loss of their baby.

Sids and Kids offers services to those affected by the death of a child who dies suddenly and unexpectedly from 20 weeks gestation to six years of age, regardless of the cause of death.

Pillars of Strength offers specific support services to fathers experiencing bereavement.

The Compassionate Friends Australia provides friendship and support to bereaved parents and their families following the death of child at any age and from any cause. The Australian branch is part of the international Compassionate Friends organisation, and has locations in most states.

The Australian Child & Adolescent Trauma, Loss & Grief Network offers resources and programs to help young people suffering from psychological trauma and/or loss and grief.

The National Centre for Childhood Grief provides loving support in a safe place where children grieving a death can share their experience as they learn to live with its impact on their lives.

This week, Julie was invited to Churchie Anglican Grammar School to speak at the Year 9 Gender Summit. The Gender Summit saw boys from Year 9 welcome invited delegates from St Aidan’s Anglican Girls’ School, St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School, Somerville House, Moreton Bay College and Lourdes Hill College. The event engages young future leaders in issues surrounding gender equality, specifically examining the challenges that lie ahead for a more gender equitable Australia.
